Regulatory Services Manager

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Regulatory Services Manager to oversee a diverse portfolio including environmental health (environmental protection, food safety, health and safety, housing standards), licensing, and parking. This is a senior leadership role within our Environment and Community Services team, managing 5 direct reports and a total team of 44 staff.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and develop a customer-focused, efficient and accessible regulatory service.
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and adoption of best practice.
- Manage budgets, resources, and performance to deliver value for money.
- Provide strategic and professional advice on environmental health, licensing, and traffic engineering.
- Represent the council internally and externally, building strong partnerships.
- Drive service improvement and innovation, contributing to council-wide plans and objectives.
What we’re looking for:
- A degree in Environmental Health or equivalent professional qualification.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH).
- Significant senior management experience in regulatory services or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of legislation and statutory requirements.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage change, and deliver results.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Political awareness and experience working in a political environment.
