Maintenance Operative

Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council is recruiting two Asset Maintenance Operatives to join a new team responsible for maintaining council‑owned assets across the borough. If you’re practical, hands‑on, and enjoy working outdoors, this could be the role for you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Repairing and replacing bins and hard‑standing areas
  • Repainting and refurbishing street furniture (benches, signs, bus shelters)
  • Installing, removing, and pressure‑washing signage
  • Repairing fencing and bollards, including replacing rails, chain‑link and dragon’s teeth
  • Routine maintenance of height barriers
  • Minor play area repairs and repainting

You’ll carry out both planned and reactive maintenance, helping keep our public spaces safe, tidy, and welcoming.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in general maintenance, multi‑trade, or similar practical work
  • A proactive approach and strong attention to detail
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a small team
  • A full clean driving licence (essential)
