Infrastructure Engineer

About the role
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT & Digital Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and developing the council’s core IT infrastructure, supporting services that are critical to both our organisation and the residents we serve.
In this role, you’ll provide specialist support across a wide range of technologies, including on-premise and cloud environments. You’ll help ensure our systems remain secure, resilient and fit for the future, while contributing to continuous improvement and innovation across our digital estate.
What you’ll be doing
You will work as part of a collaborative team, supporting and enhancing the council’s infrastructure. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting and maintaining our server, storage, network and cloud infrastructure
- Managing and developing Microsoft-based environments, including Azure and Microsoft 365
- Ensuring high levels of system security through patching, updates and vulnerability remediation
- Supporting disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements
- Troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure issues that impact critical services
- Contributing to infrastructure upgrades, projects and service improvements
- Working with third-party suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver reliable services
- Supporting compliance requirements such as PSN and PCI DSS
- Keeping up to date with emerging technologies and advising on improvements
About you
You’ll be technically strong, proactive and able to work both independently and as part of a team. You’ll also be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change.
We’re particularly looking for someone with:
- Experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure in a complex organisation
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Server, Microsoft 365 and Azure
- Experience with networking, storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Knowledge of SQL Server administration
- Experience supporting cloud or hybrid environments
- The ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach
Relevant technical qualifications, particularly in Microsoft or networking technologies, are highly desirable.
