Electoral Services Assistant

Do you have a passion for customer service and democratic engagement? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and have excellent attention to detail? If so, we are looking for a proactive and organised person to join our Electoral Services Team.

As an Electoral Services Assistant you will assist with the smooth and effective running of all elections and referenda in Basingstoke and Deane. You will also maintain and update the electoral register ensuring that all legislative requirements and standards are met.

This will be an opportunity to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders including members of the public, elected officials, political parties and council staff.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Maintaining and updating the electoral register.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of elections and referenda.
  • Responding to public enquiries regarding electoral registration, postal voting and wider election queries.
  • Responsibility for incoming electoral post and scanning.
  • Assisting the Electoral Services Team Leader and Electoral Services Officer in all electoral registration and administration tasks.

What we’re looking for:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to short deadlines
  • Ability to learn and understand new IT systems
  • A flexible approach to working hours, especially during election periods
  • Previous experience in administration or electoral services is desirable but not essential
