Communications Officer - Fixed Term 12 months
Can you turn complex information into clear messages and compelling stories?
We’re looking for a confident, creative communications officer to join our busy and friendly team on a temporary basis for 12 months.
If you enjoy variety, thrive on pace and love seeing your work make a real difference, this could be the role for you.
About you
You’re a communications all‑rounder who knows how to:
- spot a good story and turn it into compelling content
- write in ways that grab attention and keep people reading
- generate positive publicity and strong digital engagement
- use social media confidently – both proactively and responsively
- protect and enhance an organisation’s reputation in a fast‑moving environment.
No two days will be the same, and you’ll be someone who enjoys reacting quickly, thinking on your feet and finding the right message for the moment.
What you’ll bring
You’ll be a talented writer with strong digital skills and the confidence to communicate with a wide range of audiences, including residents and the media.
You’ll also have:
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- a degree‑level qualification in communications, PR or a related subject; a communications or marketing diploma and/or an NCTJ qualification – or equivalent professional experience
- a strong track record of using social media, both reactively and as part of planned campaigns
- a good understanding of the press, broadcast media, social media and wider digital communications.
Ideally, you’ll have experience working in a communications or PR role, ideally within a council or similar organisation, but we are also keen to hear from people who have the qualifications and need some experience to kick-start your career.
Why join us?
You’ll be part of a supportive, hardworking team where your ideas are valued and your work has real impact for local people. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build your experience in a fast‑paced public sector communications environment.
