Building Safety Levy Officer

A new national Building Safety Levy is being introduced in October this year, and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is seeking a motivated and detail-focused individual to support its local implementation. This role offers a unique opportunity to be involved from the outset in helping the Council establish effective systems and processes for the management and collection of the levy.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Building Safety Levy on behalf of the Council. This will include assessing liability, issuing levy charges, monitoring payments, maintaining accurate records, and supporting compliance with the relevant legislation and national guidance. The role will work closely with colleagues across Planning, Building Control, Finance, and other services to ensure the levy is administered consistently and transparently.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and ongoing refinement of local procedures for administering the levy, ensuring they are efficient, accurate, and auditable. This will require the ability to read and interpret plans and technical documentation, carry out calculations, and accurately assess the amount of levy payable. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of administrative and financial processes will therefore be essential.

As the Building Safety Levy is a new national process, prior experience of administering the levy is not expected. However, applicants should be able to demonstrate significant experience in administrative roles, either within a local authority or private sector environment. The role will suit an individual who is adaptable, methodical, and confident working with new systems, guidance, and procedures as they are developed and embedded within the Council.
